Dawud Wharnsby & Idris Philllips – Rachel

A tribute song from Dawud Wharnsby about American Palestinian peace and human rights activist and martyr of conscious, Rachel Corrie.

Rachel was an American member of the International Solidarity Movement, she was crushed to death in the Gaza Strip by an IDF  bulldozer when she refused to standby and let it demolish a Palestinian family’s home without doing something about it.

She knelt infront of the house, acting as a human shield, attempting to prevent IDF from demolishing the home, however the driver did not stop,  The IDF stated that the death was due to the “restricted view”, while ISM eyewitnesses said “there was nothing to obscure the driver’s view” adding, “We ran towards him (the driver) and waved our arms and shouted; one activist with the megaphone. But the bulldozer operator continued forward, until Rachel was all the way underneath the central section of the bulldozer.”

A student at college, she had taken a year off and travelled to the Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada, ultimately and tragically paying the price of her life for standing up for what she believed in.
